Team Deroche:
Preferred start date: November 2025 to January 2026
The qualifications required for this position correspond to those of an Assistant Engineer (AI) in Behavioral Neurobiology. The mission of the AI will be to contribute to a research project investigating the neuronal mechanisms underlying maladaptive cocaine-seeking behavior.
In close collaboration with a Research Engineer, the candidate will support behavioral testing in rats related to cocaine use, combined with real-time in vivo analysis of neuronal activity. The candidate will be involved in supporting and/or conducting stereotaxic and vascular surgeries, as well as intravenous self-administration procedures coupled with fiber photometry.
Required degree: BUT, Professional Bachelor's Degree, or Master's Degree
Contract duration: 12 months, renewable

Post doctoral position in Adult neurogenesis and Cognitive aging

The team “Neurogenesis and Physiopathology”, led by Nora Abrous at the Neurocentre Magendie (Bordeaux, France), is seeking an independent postdoctoral scientist. The selected candidate will participate in a Franco-Canadian collaboration with Caroline Menard’s laboratory at Université Laval (Quebec City, Canada). The project’s objective is to investigate if neurovascular adaptations underlie age-related changes in neurogenesis and cognitive performances.

Normal, non-pathological aging –also called normative aging- is generally accompanied by a progressive cognitive decline particularly in hippocampal-dependent memory function. Intriguingly, age-related alterations are variable within a population. Hippocampal neurogenesis, defined as the formation of new neurons, has been associated with memory performances in rodents and in humans, blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown was identified as an early marker of cognitive impairment. During brain development, neurogenesis, and angiogenesis – growth of blood vessels – work in tandem, however, it is still unknown if these processes interact in the aging brain to favor maintenance of memory capacities vs cognitive decline. The aim of the project will be to study in the course of aging the relationship between BBB integrity, cognitive performance, and the morphological properties of neurons generated in young adult animals. Identification of signaling pathways involved in healthy cognitive aging could lead to the development of innovative therapies targeting conditions characterized by memory impairment.

Competences

We are seeking a highly motivated and competent individual, with a proven track record of success and expertise in either adult neurogenesis or the vascular field. Skills in in vivo experimentation, such as stereotaxic surgery in rodents, are required. Experience with brain immunohistology and imaging techniques (STED) would be advantageous. Candidates should be junior, if possible, immediately after their PhD, and in any case no more than three years after their PhD.

The applicant should possess strong team-working capabilities, the ability to independently conduct experimental research, and excellent communication skills in spoken and written English. Proficiency in French is not mandatory.

The project will be conducted in a stimulating and highly interdisciplinary and international environment in the Neurocentre Magendie, a part of the Bordeaux Neurocampus project.

Post-doctoral Position in Cortical Plasticity Team

We seek a highly motivated and proactive team player to join our international group. In this collaborative project (collaborator: Brice Bathellier at Institut Pasteur), you will study the dysfunctional maturation of prefrontal cortex ensembles in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease using population activity measures (miniscope or mini-2-photon calcium imaging) together with innovative tools for labeling and computational approaches. Please see our recent paper on bioRxiv for some context of the project: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.09.13.612936v1

The postdoc position is fully funded for 3 years by the Foundation for Medical Research. The appointee must have a PhD or equivalent qualification in neuroscience, life sciences, medicine, bioinformatics, mathematics, or physics. The candidate should also be proficient in English. Interested applicants should send a cv, brief statement of research experience and interests, and names of 2-3 references to Dr. Andreas Frick: andreas.frick@inserm.fr
